Phase 1 – Faubourg Delassize
Faubourg Delassize was first mapped in April 1836 as part of the City of Lafayette. Bound by St. Charles Avenue, Louisiana Avenue, La Salle Street and Washington Avenue, it is home to a number of notable landmarks. Founded in 1803, Christ Church Cathedral is the first non-Roman Catholic church in the Louisiana Purchase territory. St. Katherine Drexel (Holy Ghost) Catholic Church and School, and the historic Lafayette Cemetery #2, and St. Jospeh Cemeteries, also form part of the Faubourg Delassize landscape.
Phase 2 – Faubourg Livaudais
Historically part of the City of Lafayette, Faubourg Livaudais was founded in 1832 and is bound by La Salle Street and Washington, Jackson and St Charles Avenues. Transforming from a plantation into a developing community, the neighborhood is today anchored by the Dryades YMCA, which was founded in 1905. Faubourg Livaudais also boasts a number of historical churches.
Phase 3 – Faubourg Lafayette
Founded in 1824 as one of the first parts of the City of Lafayette, Faubourg Lafayette stretches from Calliope St, uptown to Jackson Avenue and from St. Charles Avenue to Simon Bolivar Avenue. What was once a booming commercial district that died out, Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard has recently seen new energy and commitment to restoration. The redevelopment plans for this historic corridor include the construction of the Louisiana Civil Rights Museum, as well as a number of art and urban agriculture opportunities.
