OUR MISSION

Jericho Road Episcopal Housing Initiative is a faith-based nonprofit organization, providing working families and individuals affordable housing opportunities in New Orleans neighborhoods.

With the guidance and support of the community, Jericho Road is working with other non-profits, private businesses, governmental agencies and faith-based groups to create long-term housing strategies which include new construction and rehabilitation of existing homes.

Our community-based approach works to foster a spirit of neighbor-helping-neighbor among the residents of Central City.

With seventy percent of housing stock uninhabitable, hundreds of thousands of New Orleanians are displaced. Many of these families want to return home.

Jericho Road is creating family wealth, empowering individuals, rehabilitating neighborhoods and changing communities by:

• Obtaining land

• Ensuring quality construction

• Requiring and providing access to high quality home buyer training

• Continuing to work with community residents and institutional partners to support a community based approach to redevelopment

* Establishing organizational longevity through fundraising and

• Selling affordable homes.

May 2008 - Joining thousands of affordable housing professionals from across the country at a NeighborWorks America Training Institute workshop, Jericho Road reinforced its commitment to a greener New Orleans.

Beginning with its first home construction, Jericho Road has been on the cutting edge of green trends in affordable home building.

UNIVERSAL DESIGN STANDARDS

In consultation with Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Department of Occupational Therapy, Jericho Road is constructing homes that promote accessibility through Universal Design principals. Jericho Road is committed to building homes for a lifetime, serving people who are young and old, with excellent or limited physical abilities. For more information on Universal Design, click here.
