Helping Neighbors Come Home

Published: July 23, 2025

Since 2006, Jericho Road has worked alongside families across Southeast Louisiana to build lasting stability through affordable housing, economic opportunity, and community development. While we are known for building affordable homes, our work goes far beyond housing. We are building communities where everyone can thrive.

Recently, our Workforce Development crew completed a small but meaningful project, installing a wheelchair ramp for a senior who suffered a stroke and lost mobility. For him, that ramp meant much more than a construction project. It meant coming home.

“I didn’t know how I was going to get back home,” he shared. “That ramp changed everything. I’m just grateful to be back where I belong.”

As Jericho Road’s Executive Director explained, “Sometimes the smallest projects have the biggest impact. This ramp allowed our neighbor to come home, and that’s what our work is about—restoring independence and dignity.”

Every day, Jericho Road team is at work across Southeast Louisiana, preserving homes, training residents for careers in construction, and leading projects that strengthen the neighborhoods we all share. Whether we are building new affordable homes or rehabilitating existing ones, our goal stays the same, helping families remain rooted in safe, stable communities.

Through our Workforce Development Program, residents build valuable construction skills while directly contributing to the revitalization of their neighborhoods, creating a cycle of investment that benefits everyone.

Although the loss of a major federal funding source has created challenges, our commitment remains strong. Whether it is a wheelchair ramp, a renovated home, or job training that opens a new career path, this work will continue—because at Jericho Road, we are not just building houses. We are helping neighbors come home, and building communities where people feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.
