Jericho Road and State Partners Advance Resilient Housing in Pointe Coupee Parish

Jericho Road Episcopal Housing Initiative is excited to announce our partnership with the Louisiana Office of Community Development (OCD) and the Neighborhood Development Foundation on the Audubon Estates Development in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. This collaboration marks an important step in advancing Jericho Road’s mission to expand affordable homeownership, close the economic gap for low-income and working families, and create opportunities for families to thrive across Louisiana.

For decades, residents of the Pecan Acres community in New Roads lived with the devastating effects of chronic flooding, often forced to evacuate their homes multiple times each year. In response, the Louisiana Office of Community Development launched the Audubon Estates Development to provide safe, sustainable housing for displaced families and strengthen long-term community stability.

Through this partnership, Jericho Road is serving as a sub-recipient of project funding and is working alongside our HUD-certified partner, the Neighborhood Development Foundation, to help prospective homeowners prepare for success through financial education, credit counseling, and homeownership readiness programs. These efforts ensure that families are equipped not only to purchase their homes but also to build lasting stability and wealth for generations to come.

The Audubon Estates Phase II community includes 20 newly constructed homes built to Fortified Gold standards, ensuring durability, energy efficiency, and protection from severe weather. Each home is designed to lower maintenance and utility costs, creating an affordable path to stability for families who have endured decades of displacement.

Across Louisiana, the need for affordable, resilient housing remains urgent. Nearly 60 percent of low-income renters are cost-burdened, spending more than a third of their income on housing. Meanwhile, Black homeownership hovers around 40 percent, compared to nearly 70 percent for white households, reflecting deep inequities in access to wealth-building opportunities.

The Audubon Estates Development demonstrates the power of partnership between government and nonprofits to create lasting change. By combining resources, expertise, and community trust, projects like this ensure that recovery and resilience efforts are both people-centered and future-focused.

Jericho Road has supported over 200 families on their path to homeownership and continues to expand its reach across Southeast Louisiana. At Jericho Road, we believe that safe, affordable housing is the foundation of thriving communities. Our partnership in the Audubon Estates Development reflects our ongoing commitment to helping families build stability, wealth, and opportunity across Southeast Louisiana.
